STEM becomes STEAM through Science Projects at School 2

School 2 eighth grade students recently won second place in the “Innovation” category at the Paterson Public Schools Annual STEM Expo held on December 16, 2016 at William Paterson University.  

In the successful project, “Home Water Recycling,” students researched and illustrated the procedures and stages of wastewater recycling.  Treating wastewater to remove solids and impurities results in the conservation of this critical resource, resulting in more sustainable ecosystems and improved aesthetics.  

Another project, “Bridge Challenge,” which was entered in the sixth/seventh grade category, focused upon different types of bridges, including how they are engineered. Although not winning an award, the project clearly illustrated the “E” in STEAM.  


The students’ work was guided by WPU Art PIR Sandler, Science Teacher Morrison, Math Teacher LaChapel, and Art Teacher Porto. 

Paterson Public Schools District Superintendent Dr. Evans presented the awards to the winning students.
